How to Tame a Cat Step by Step Guide
Step 1: Find a crafting table
If you do not already have a crafting table, you can find one in witch huts, igloo basements, or small village homes. Alternatively, you can craft your own crafting table by placing any four random blocks of wood in the crafting menu. Drag and drop the newly created crafting table into your inventory.
Step 2: Craft a fishing rod
Go on a short spider hunt. Killing spiders will cause them to drop strings. You will need two of these items. A stick, on the other hand, must be crafted using any two wooden planks or two units of bamboo. Place the first plank in the center of the crafting grid and drop the second one directly below it in the second square of the last row. You can use the same item placement for bamboos as well. Drag and drop the crafted fishing rod into your inventory.
Step 3: Use your fishing rod to catch fish
You will first need to find a water body like a lake or a river. Equip your fishing rod and stand next to the water source. Right-click on the water and wait for the bobber to start moving or sinking gently. Immediately hit the right mouse button (right trigger on the controller) to catch the fish and haul it in. Repeat the process at least five more times. The type of fish you catch does not matter as long as it remains raw.
Step 4: Find a cat
Cats are some of the most common mobs in Minecraft. You can find a stray cat quite easily in villages that have at least four beds. A single cat will spawn for every four beds in any village. If you are intent on finding a black cat, you can usually find one in witch huts located in the swamp biome.
Step 5: Lure the cat with the raw fish
Cats are attracted to all types of fish as long as it is uncooked. Equip the raw fish in your inventory and right-click on the cat. You will see a tuft of gray smoke right above your future pet. Do not stop feeding the cat until small red hearts begin to appear around the animal. You should soon be able to see a collar appear around the cat’s neck. The hearts will disappear, indicating that the cat has now become your pet.
It is possible that you will require more than 5 raw fish to tame a cat. There is no exact number. To be on the safer side, it is a good idea to have up to 20 fish in your inventory before approaching the cat.
Cats in Minecraft have a stark similarity to cats in the real world. They are curious creatures that love to explore their surroundings. They can always teleport to your location if you move more than 12 blocks away, so you do not have to worry too much about losing your cat. If you want to keep a cat locked to a particular place, you can order it to sit. Having a cat follow you around can be an excellent way to keep Creepers and Phantoms at bay. Both of these mobs will stay away from a cat.
Inside homes, you will often find cats moving around energetically. They can crawl onto beds, move around on your furniture, or nestle atop chests and furnaces. If a cat is sitting on a crafting table, anvil, or any other crafting device, you will not be able to use the item until the cat moves out of the way. You can lure the cat away with bait or remove blocks under it. Cats also tend to sleep next to their owners. They will sometimes have gifts for you when you wake up in the morning! These gifts can range from raw chicken to the foot of a rabbit.
