What You Need to Repair a Bow in Minecraft
You require an Anvil, Crafting Table, or Grindstone to repair a Bow. If you do not already have one of these items, you can craft them from scratch.
Crafting an Anvil
To craft an Anvil, you require 3 Blocks of Iron and 4 Iron Ingots. You can make a Block of Iron by placing 1 Iron Ingot in each slot of the 3×3 Crafting Grid. Select a Crafting Table to open the Crafting Grid. Place a Block of Iron in each slot of the top row. In the second row, place an Iron Ingot in the middle slot, and leave the other two slots empty. In the bottom row, place one Iron Ingot in each of the slots. You have successfully crafted an Anvil!
Finding an Anvil
If you do not want to go through the process of crafting an Anvil, you can just look for one in the nearby village and mine it with a pickax.
Crafting a Grindstone
To craft a Grindstone, you require 2 Sticks, 1 Stone Slab, and 2 Planks of any type. In the top row of the Crafting Grid, place a Strick in the first and third slots, and a Stone Slab in the second slot. In the middle row, Place a Wooden Plank in the first and third slots. You have now crafted a Grindstone.
How to Repair a Bow in Minecraft
There are two ways to repair a Bow.
Method 1: Using a Crafting Table
This method removes the enchantments on the Bow that is repaired and isn’t ideal. For unenchanted Bows, however, a Crafting Table is good enough.
Step 1 – Collect 2 Bows
In order to repair a Bow, you need another damaged Bow of the same type.
Step 2 – Open Crafting Menu
Select a Crafting Table to open the Crafting Grid. Place the two damaged bows in the same row, next to each other
Step 3 – Collect Bow
The repaired Bow will now appear on the right side of the Crafting Menu. You can move it to your inventory.
Method 2: Using a Grindstone
Alternatively, you can use a Grindstone to repair a Bow. This gives an extra 5% durability to the repaired Bow in addition to the sum of the durabilities of the two Bows. Just like with a Crafting Table, enchantments on the Bow are lost when using this method to repair it.
Step 1 – Collect Bows
Just like with a Crafting Table, you can repair a damaged Bow by using another damaged Bow on a Grindstone.
Step 2 – Grinding Menu
Select a Grindstone to open its menu. There will be 2 slots of the left of the menu and 1 on the right. Place the two Bows in the 2 slots on the left.
Step 3 – Collect Repaired Bow
The new repaired Bow will have a durability that is the sum of durabilities of the 2 damaged Bows. The new Bow will also get an additional 5% durability. This 5% bonus is only available for the Grindstone, making it the perfect item to repair your weapons!
Preserving the Bow
Using an Anvil
This method allows you to preserve any of the enchantments that are present on your Bow, even after being repaired. It makes use of an Anvil. Additionally, you can also rename your repaired Bow as you wish.
Step 1 – Collect Items or Bow
You can repair a Bow on an Anvil using another Bow, or using its base ingredients. The items needed to craft or repair a Bow are Sticks and Strings.
Step 2 – Use Anvil
Select the Anvil to open its menu. Two slots will appear to the left of an arrow, and one slot to the right of the arrow. Place a Bow in the first slot to the left. In the second slot, either place another Bow or one of the base ingredients used to craft a Bow. There is also an additional Enchantment Cost to repairing your Bow using this an Anvil, that uses experience points. The exact durability that will be increased will vary.
Step 3 – Collect Repaired Item
The repaired Bow will appear to the right of the arrow in the Anvil menu. You can move it to your inventory.
The Unbreaking enchantment prevents the durability of an item from dropping when it is used.
The Mending enchantment helps restore the durability of an item with experience points.
