How to Make a Painting in Minecraft
Step 1: Set up your crafting table
A crafting table is the single most important tool for making new items in Minecraft. You can find them in igloo basements and witch huts. You can also make your own crafting table using any four blocks of wood. Open your crafting menu and place all four blocks of wood in a square formation. Drag and drop the crafting table into your inventory.
Step 2: Obtain wool
The easiest way to obtain wool is to shear a fully grown sheep. This will yield anywhere between 1 to 3 wool. Killing an unshorn sheep will drop a single unit of wool. Sheep can be commonly found wandering around grassy biomes in the Overworld. Wool can also be procured by looting certain parts of woodland mansions, fletcher houses, shepherd houses, and woolen tents located in pillager outposts.
Step 3: Craft a few sticks
Sticks can be crafted using two straightforward methods. Open the 3×3 crafting grid, and place two units of bamboo on the second square of the second row (center of the grid) and the second square of the third row. Drag the newly crafted stick into your inventory. You can also craft sticks using two wooden planks placed in the same formation. Sticks can sometimes be found in cartographer’s chests and fletcher’s chests in villages.
Step 4: Create your first painting
Select your crafting table and open the crafting menu. Place the wool right in the center of the 3×3 grid. Surround the wool by filling the remaining eight squares with the eight sticks that you previously crafted. A painting icon will appear on the right, next to the arrow. Drag and drop the newly created painting into your inventory. You can now hang this painting on any wall!
Paintings can also be obtained by trading with master-level shepherd villagers. They will accept 2 emeralds for 3 paintings.
Installing Your Painting
Paintings can be attached to signs or any open side of a solid block. The solid blocks can be made of any materials. Simply select the painting in your inventory and right-click on a viable solid surface. A random painting is picked from a collection of 26 standard paintings once you have selected a place to hang it. Almost all of the paintings in Minecraft are based on the masterpieces by Kristoffer Zetterstrand, a Swedish artist well-known for his unique pixelated style of art.
Paintings generally look good when hung on a wall inside your home. It is important to note that a painting will automatically take up the largest amount of space that is available on the solid surface. Paintings have a maximum size of 4×4 blocks or 64×64 pixels. Thus, you can control the size of the painting by limiting the amount of space you provide. Adding additional solid blocks around your desired area will ensure that the painting is confined to that space. If the supporting blocks around the painting are removed, the painting will self-destruct almost instantly.
How to Make a Painting in Minecraft: Best Usage Tips
Here are a few handy tips:
- Paintings cannot be set on fire by any means. If you have items that are flammable, you can place them behind a painting to keep them safe.
- Since paintings are considered ‘entities’ and not ‘items’, a painting cannot restrict the movement of mobs or players. This implies that you can walk through paintings. This makes them an excellent means of concealing hidden chambers inside a house. To achieve this, begin by placing a normal door at the entrance of the hidden room. Make your character crouch before right-clicking on the door with your equipped painting. This will cause the painting to conform to the shape of the door, making it a completely hidden entrance!
- Hitting a painting with an arrow, egg, snowball, or ender pearl will cause it to get destroyed. Paintings cannot withstand TNT or lightning either.
- Paintings that face north or south are brighter than paintings that are installed facing east or west.
