Barrels are an important basic item in Minecraft. They can be used to store items just like a chest. This guide will help you learn how to make a Barrel in Minecraft.
What You Need to Make a Barrel in Minecraft
In addition to a crafting table, you need the following items to make a Barrel.
For the Java Edition
- 6 Wood Planks of any type
- 2 Wood Slabs of any type
For the Bedrock Edition
- 6 Sticks
- 2 Wood Slabs of any type
How to Make a Barrel in Minecraft
Step 1 – Gather Base Ingredients
To craft a Barrel, you require Wood Slabs, and either Wooden Planks or Sticks, depending on the version of Minecraft that you are playing. To make Wood Planks, Wood Slabs, and Sticks, you require Wood. Wood is one of the easiest items to find in Minecraft. Find an area with several trees. Approach the tree and use your hands or an ax to mine Wood or Logs. Any type of Wood can be mined to craft Planks, Sticks, and Slabs.
Step 2 – Crafting Items
Select the Crafting Table to open the 3×3 Crafting Grid. In order to craft Wood Planks, you require a Log of any type. Place the log in the middle of the 3×3 grid. You will obtain 4 Wood Planks of the same type on the right side of the crafting menu.
Wood Planks serve as the base ingredient to make Sticks and Wood Slabs. To craft a Stick, you require 2 Wood Planks of the same type. Go to a Crafting Table and open the Crafting Grid. Place one Wood Plank in the second slot of the top row of the grid, and another Wood Plank in the second slot of the middle row. The remaining slots must be left empty. You will obtain 4 Sticks.
To craft a Wood Slab, you require 3 Wood Planks of the same type. Open the Crafting Grid on the Crafting Table. The top row and bottom rows must be left empty. In each slot of the middle row, place a Wood Plank. You will obtain 6 Wood Slabs of the same type.
Step 3 – Craft a Barrel
Just like before, open the Crafting Grid on the Crafting Table. A 3×3 grid will appear on the screen. You can craft items by placing items in this grid in a specific pattern. The recipe to craft a Barrel is different in the Java and Bedrock Editions of Minecraft.
In the top row of the 3×3 grid, place Wood Planks in the first and third slots, and a Wood Slab in the second slot. In the middle row, place Wood Planks in the first and third slots, and leave the second slot empty. The bottom row is exactly like the top row, with a Wood Plank in the first and third slots, and a Wood Slab in the second slot.
In the top row, place a Stick in the first and third slots, and a Wood Slab in the second slot. In the middle row, palace a Stick in the first and third slots, while leaving the second slot empty. The bottom row has the exact same pattern as the top row.
Step 4 – Move to Inventory
You have successfully crafted a Barrel! Move it to your inventory so that you can place it wherever you want.
Barrel Usage in Minecraft
As a Container
Barrels can be used to store items. They have an inventory with 27 slots, similar to that of a chest. A Dropper can be used to fill a Barrel, while a Hopper can be used to empty and fill it. When a Barrel is broken, its contents are dropped, in addition to the Barrel itself. Unlike chests, a Barrel can be placed underneath a solid block, and it will still be possible to access its inventory.
It is possible to mine Barrels without tools. Using an ax, however, is the quickest method to mine it.
Water and Lava
Lava and water do not affect barrels and flow around them. Although lava does create fire in the blocks of air next to the barrel, as if it is flammable, the barrel itself never catches fire or gets burned.
