Here are the guidelines to be followed to create a Minecraft username.

  • The Minecraft name must be unique and not something that is already in use.
  • The Minecraft name must be between 3 to 16 characters.
  • Spaces are not allowed anywhere in the name.
  • All 26 letters of the English Alphabet are allowed.
  • You can use both upper and lower case letters, but the username is not case sensitive.
  • Digits from 0 to 9 are allowed in the username.
  • The only special character allowed in the Minecraft Gamertag is the underscore (_).

You will need to wait for a period of 30 days after changing a username to make another change. On changing your username, your old name is held for 37 days. This means that once the 30-day limitation is crossed, you have 7 days to change back to your previous name. Not doing it within these 7 days means that other players are entitled to take your old name.

Step 1 – Understand the Limitations

Before changing your username, you must be aware of the limitations and guidelines for setting a new name. Note that changing the in-game Minecraft username does not affect the profile name on the Minecraft website.

Step 2 – Go to the Mojang Website

Open https://www.mojang.com on any browser on your PC. This will take you to the Mojang homepage.

Step 3 – Select Account

On the top-right side of the browser window, you will see a menu with several options. Click on one of the options named ccount’.

Step 4 – Login

A new page will open on the browser. Again, on the top right of the screen, you will see an option to og In’. If you are already logged into your Mojang account, you can skip this entire step. Type in your email and password into the fields on the page. Click on the green-colored og In’ button present at the bottom.

Step 5 – Navigate to Profile Name

In the middle of the new page, you will see a section that is titled rofile Name’. Below it, you will see your Minecraft in-game name. You will see a hyperlink that says hange’ immediately to the right of your current username. Click on it.

If you have not changed your name in the past 30 days, then you will be able to type in a new name in this field. Look at the section with ew profile name’ and the text field below it. You can enter the username that you want to use. Make sure to follow the guidelines for creating a Minecraft username.

Step 7 – Check Availability

You can check the availability of the username by clicking on the small grey button to the right of the text field. If available, the button goes from grey to green. If the username is already taken, then a message saying the username is in use will appear in red. If so, try a different variation of the name, and check its availability again.

Step 8 – Enter Password

To confirm the username change, type in your account password just below the new profile name.

Step 9 – Confirm Change

Finally, click on hange name’ at the bottom of the screen. Your current username will be immediately changed to the new one. The next time you log into Minecraft on PC or Mac, you will see the name change. Note that you will not be able to change your username for the next 30 days.
